I just built a new computer, it has pretty much the newest stuff 52x cdrw, 56cdrom, 512 mb memory, amd xp2100, 2.1ghz processor, but the damned thing freezes literally every 1.5 minute, and then unfreezes, I checked compatibility in the xp proffesional disk and everything is compatible, I have a 350 watt atx power supply, and what the heck does bios stand for, you people are damn geniuses so thanks in advance

BIOS stands for "Basic Input/Output System".
Could be a memory problem, try removing one of your sticks (if you have two 256 modules), if you still get the same freeze, try with the other stick on it's own. Also d/load MEMTEST and give your RAM a check.

Johnw posts a great troubleshoot here.

Check the CPU for overheating (check temps in the BIOS)
Check for bad Memory (RAM).
Also make sure the RAM is seated (locked into place).
