Bought new computer cant install OS

Hey fuys i have just baught a new computer but it want read my XP CD. It doesnt have a a OS so i put my XP cd in but it just keep saying:Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I know that my XP CD Is bootable. Help me out pleas!!

Is your CD drive recognized by your BIOS? And if so, did you select it as your first boot device?

Yes it is first boot device my harddisk is second and my floppy drive is last. But maybe my XP CD aint bootable im not sure anymore how do i check out´??
is the CD a full install or a manf restore CD. it may be that the disc is just bad and not readable or the CD drive could be the culprit, if the drives are all ribboned and jumpered correctly about the only way to find out is trial and error by trying a different OS/CD or a different drive.

Hopefully this will help you Clean format and install of WinXp I even had some instances where I had to use a 98se boot-up floppy, install 98se and then install WinXp over top of it.
