Specs: Windows XP open office .org
I even bought a new flash drive and tried to copy a text doc to it, it immediately turned into notepad.

That has nothing to do with infection. You likely have notepad as the default application associated to text (.txt) files...

Most likely #1 is correct but if not can you explain exactly what you are doing in a bit more detail please?

What file type are you "copying" .doc or .txt, or are you just copying a block of text from a doc?

Is it OK if you do this to anywhere else in the PC or is it only on the flash drive that it changes it?

Is it just the icon that changes when it is on the flash drive, or does it then open a different program?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks
