Comment:

I have win98 and winXP. I installed XP on NTFS format on a new partition (D) and win98 is on C partition.
I had to reformat my 98 and I forgot to backup my boot.ini. So now I can't access XP.

Can someone copy and paste their boot.ini (if you have dual boot). I need the line that will boot to XP

thanks

A number of issues here:

1. If you haven't reinstalled 98 yet you will need more files. C:\ntldr c:\ntdetect.com and c:\boot.ini

2. The above boot.ini line refers to the fourth partition on a primary hard drive with XP located in the WINNT directory. Make sure this reflects your system.

3. If you have reinstalled 98 you will have to make the boot sector XP compatible by using the FIXBOOT command in the recovery console.

4. When XP dual boots with 98 it uses a file called c:\bootsect.dos
Because you have lost this you will most likely have to reinstall XP if you want to dual boot again.
