My comp. stocked suddenly, windows refused to start "missing a file" forgotten the name.
Lucky I am using FAT32, so on with NortonComm. The file was there, copy a new one instead of, same result.
Then I saw, that Xp tried to start from an old folder at my 2. HD almost empty, but with the name WINDOWS.
I tried everything rep. and so on, but no.
By writing the wright things into boot.ini
my comp. stated with everything intact.
Else I had to reinstall everything from the beginning.
Wheter MS or Hot-line by Siemens gave me the advice. They said both. REINSTALL all!Does someone know what "rdisk" in the boot.ini means ??

A little confused here; can you now boot to XP OK? If not...
How many hard drives are there in this system; and can you reproduce the boot.ini (as it is at present) here? That way if this is a boot.ini error (and it may well be) and you are set with "default OS to boot" to an older/incomplete windows ('9x/ME) installation..., then it should be realtively simple to redirect/reassign the default OS to the working version?
That you appear to say you seem to try to boot to an old windows folder... suggests either you have a second (and possibly incomplete) XP version in the same partition as the winnt version; or you have a '98 or '95 or ME folder on the drive (on a second drive?) and the default OS to boot is to that folder '9x(ME) - that windows OS? It does sound (from your initial information) as though you have 2 physical drives involved, and an old windows ('9x/ME) folder is still on the second drive - and you are in fact set to boot to that old windows folder by default?
Again if the system still not booting OK, post back with info requested above?
"rdisk" query is already dealt with by Steve above.

Thanks to both of you.
My system are now working with all the old settings.
What happend was, that, for some unknown reason, Xp tried to boot from an nearly empty folder with the name of Windows (on the 2.partion on HD 2)
So I simply wrote a couple of new entries below the default, and one of them pointed to the original and voila my old one came up. Thats the reason why I asked for the meaning of RDISK
The reason that I am happy for FAT32, is that I always can go to DOS, load the old NORTON-COMMANDER and manipulate my comp. from that, even the boot.ini (normally both system- and hidden file).
Sure you can do the same in Xp, but if you cannot load it you are lost.
The reason for inst. a new one is a still standing problem, I cannot load regedit, the picture come up for about 1/2sec. and then- no more-
No it is not a virus I tried with both NAV and McFeeAfter the inst. I was suddently asked for an activation ("You have x days left ...")
OK I called MS "-NO it is an OEM-version you have to call Siemens to get it activated", so I called Siemens and belive it or not they said "-NO you have to call MS for the activation"Does anyone have had the same problem with pre-inst. Xp?? my is a Fuji.._Siemens with a so-called BIOS-LOCKED op-system.
Your comments are very welcome.
