Ok. There have been sites saying that you can actually change your boot screen into something different. Catching my interest, I decided to investigate. I got some pics and printed out the instructions and followed them. Now, I can't even get to my login screen without it going to the options mode where you can go into safe mode and all that. The thing is, I can click on any of these, and my computer will still reboot and go back to that screen again...and it loops. Is there any way of accessing my hardrive again without formatting? I have about 20 Gb of music/movie files that I DO NOT want to look for and download again, plus some of my school work. All help much appreciated!

I just typed out a long list of things that you might try, but man does not run the show- it got deleted just as I was going to submit it.

I'll outline several ideas that might work, and you could do a internet search to find out more details about each one.

First, try a repair install as the previous poster suggested.

Next (of course if that does not work) try booting into the Recovery Console and do 'CHKDSK /R' and reboot.

If that doesnt work, try 'FIXBOOT'

You can try 'FDISK /MBR' if none of the above work out.

If you are still facing this boot error after all the of the above, then you could try using a third party boot disk or repair disk. A second to last resort would be to partition the HD and install a new version of the OS and then you'd still have the old files on the other partition. Of course if all else fails then you could just do a clean install, lose all the saved material, (and probably get a clean conscience along the way)

If nothing here works, you could post and maybe someone has other ideas, or if I'm here I might have something to help.

Good luck,
Larry
