BOOTING PROBLEM Sys. Files Missing

I am too waried because I can't boot win xp due to message saying some of system files are missing and suggesting me to use repair by using original win xp CD. But I can't boot from CD because when I start PC options of safe mode, normal mode...etc is showing but if I touch any ket the PC is booting agine with same message ????
I wnet hardly to MS DOS mode and tried to run win xp setup from CD but it doesn't works??
Please Helpe me .. I have important files on my pc and don't won't to lose them by formating my HD.

set up in Bios the option to boot from CD. that should enable you to recover.

Is it saying you are having problems with your CONFIG directory perhaps? If so, boot up with a Windows 98 boot disk and try this: [Change Drive Letter And Directory If Needed!] copy C:\Windows\Repair C:\Windows\System32\Config That should work. Unfortunately you will have to reinstall many things if you haven't backed up those files at all. These are factory-defaults from installation I believe. Hope this helps!
