Hello members
I have discovered that I can't boot in safe mode.
It comes to a blue screen and says;" a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down.....
Otherwise (normal booting)is all working without a problem!.
Could someone point me in the right direction as to what the problem is?

Thanks
L

When did this start? What Safe Mode options does this happen for? All selections? Have you tried a System Restore to a time before this started happening?

Hi Jennifer,thanks
I don't know when it started and I only discovered because I wanted to do a virus check in safe mode.
I tried all safe modes and all come back to the blue screen.
I have turned off system restore right from the beginning and this system is running for about a year.
One thing I just wanted to try before was ; msconfig-diagnostic startup and it came back with an error"an access denied error... you may need to log on using an administrator account..
I have an account with administrator privileges.
Any more ideas?

Thanks
L

Try this, click on Start > Run, type "msconfig", then click on the "Boot.ini" tab, then CHECK the "/SAFEBOOT" option, then click on Apply, then OK. After you've finished in Safe Mode, then open "msconfig/Boot.ini tab", then UNCHECK the "/SAFEBOOT" box.

Johnw, thanks!
I will do that and see how I get on.
One thing that also puzzles me is that the diagnostic restart was not possible either, as mentioned above.
I will post back

Hi members
I tried all sorts; the reinstall/r version with fixboot and fixmbr, chkdsk all without success.
I did a repair install and because I had scheduled a virus scan when booting before the last shutdown I could also not get in after the reinstallation. It has been a pain!
Finally I recovered/reinstated with a 10 day old Ghost image and is all back to work.
Reason for the muck up was that I had installed a second OS and after formating that disk(second HD)I had changed the boot.ini and it must'f been that that caused the trouble because now its all working sweet.
Thanks for your efforts!

Perhaps you could have stated that in your original post. Or, in your next post after I asked "When did this start?"

More correct information is always a better way to get help.

Hi Jennifer
Thanks!
Yes you might be right. As I did not need to get into safe mode I did not know when it started.
I just assume the above reason as since I have the reloaded image, which is approx. 10 days old and dated just before the change (removed one OS)I can get into safe mode.
I had done this before with other OS's and never had a problem.
Anyway, it works fine now(and I am happy)
Regards
L
