Booting from OEM version XP CD?

Comment:
Can a system be booted from an OEM version Windows XP Home Edition CD? Despite having "Boot from CD" as the 1st selection in BIOS Boot Priority, the subsequent boot is as normal. My desire is to reformat and do a clean install of Windows XP.

Are you watching the screen & pressing a key to boot off the CD when prompted?

I have watched the screen - no prompts. The computer boots from "Ultimate Boot CD 2.4" without any key pressing, which made me wonder about possible differences with an OEM version XP CD.

How do you define "OEM"? What makes you think an OEM CD is not "genuine"? [whatever your definition of "genuine"is].

"OEM" = Original Equipment Mfgr.
"OEMPOC" = OEM PIECE OF CRAP
OEM-XP is a preinstalled OS that can be reinstalled from the i386 directory or the factory restore piece of crap CD.

Go to Boot Disk.com and download the 6 emergency repair disk. You will need 6 blank floppy disk.
Use those disks to get to the Repair Console and then choose a fresh install. Insert the OEM Disk into the CD-Rom and format and reinstall a fresh copy.
Repost if you are still having trouble.

Just a minute, hang on, before everyone gets mad at each other, I have an oem cd and it boots just like any retail version. You need to uninstall the Ultimate Boot CD 2.4 because it takes over when ever you boot from a cd and it must interfer with the normal cd booting operation. Check out their home page.

Ultimate Boot CD 2.4 isn't installed, after making the CD I merely tested it - to see if the CD worked and if the computer would boot from a CD. The CD was a success and the system booted from it, but for whatever reason won't from the OEM XP disc.

Even though I couldn't see any prompts, waiting for the HDD to be recognized then continually pressing a key, proved to be the solution.
