booting from hard disk

Specs: xp, 256 mb
i want to ask if i can boot from hard disk?
I mean i have a bootable xp cd but my cd drive is not working . Now i have hard disk with formatted c drive (no OS. I formatted it due to virus a week ago when cd rom was working fine after that bios is not detecting it...it is another story).now i want to know if i copy bootable cd to hard disk c drive (going to pc shop and paying for it ) will it boot setup that i can install on another drive ?(or same drive?)

Im confused, You cannot just copy the cd to hard drive, you
need to boot from cd & install windows.

Besides, if the cd rrom is not working how will you copy it.

Just buy another cd rom you can get them very cheap nowdays.

As I said, you can't just copy windows, you need to boot from
cd rom, then install.

To save money, if you don't feel confident enough about fitting
a cd rom, get the shop to do that.

Then, change the boot order in the bios, put the boot disk in
the drive, then its fairly straight forward to install windows.
