BootDisk for XP

July 10, 2010 at 12:10:09
Specs: Windows XP
Hello,
i downloaded a setupbootdisk from Microsoft's website: it creates 6 Floppy Disks. When i ran them i found out it was the Recovery Console.
Can someone tell how/why i need this Boot Disk, a scenerio: suppose my PC is rendered unbootable (many reasons), then how do i use the Boot Disk to recover xp to Desktop.
My only option would be to restore the pc with the backup i made: but then again i would loose a lot of data that has been collected for months.

Make regular backups, and, or create a new set of recovery
disks using free disk imaging software.

ie Acronis, Paragon, Macrium Reflect

i have already made a backup of XP by Paragon: but Restoring is not what i want to do. I want to Recover to Desktop , since i would have months of work in it.
Thank you for your advice.

Ok, I assume your pc won't boot.

Send details of the exact problem.

Depending on the problem, there are some commands you
can run from the recovery console, like fixmbr etc

Or, to recover data from your hard disk, I suggest using a
bootable disk like knoppix. Or Hirens boot cd

The recovery console is how you can fix your system.

If you don't have a cd you can always borrow one that is same version and service pack to do a "repair"
