I have been doing some research but I can't seem to find any 'recent' discussion on the topic.

Can someone please shed some light on it?

I know it is possible, but all of the methods I find to do so are two years old.

Thanks for your help everyone.

52" Sony Bravia LCD, EVGA 790i board, 3.0 Quad-Core, 4GB DDR3, SLI GX2s, SB X-Fi, a 2000+ watt 7.1 sound system... Best gaming computer ever, when its not crashing. Vista killed my inner child.

pretty simple.

In order to use a bootable USB drive your computer must support booting from removable device. This is a BIOS setting from within the Boot Order.

The Bios must be set to boot from a removable device which can be a flash drive (thumb drive) or an external USB connected hard drive!

If your computer supports this then an operating system may be installed on this external drive and allowed to start fron it.

XP and versions of it are not easily installed on an external drive as the set-up files do not support this action. There are web pages set up as tutorials for doing this.

Just because it is able to do this does not mean that you can install XP or versions of Xp/vista on a bootable external drive and swap it to another computer and have it work properly...remember that windows needs to be set-up and ran on the computer it is to be used on...

This is more for use with setting up knoppix/linux or other operating systems and running them from the drive as they donot need to install to the computer but can be ran straight from a CD or flash drive.

Flash drive that are designed to support an simple applications (programs) are nic-named U3's as it has a special format for installing applications and stuff that can be made to swap from computer to computer....not the same as a bootable drive though and they do not need any special BIOS setting to work!

Hope that sheds some light on the subject for you!

Operating Costs = the cost of operating a business
Profits = revenues over and above the operating costs.
Taxes = operating costs mandated by gov.
TaxPayer = what you are called by the gov.
