The problem is as follows:
I want to make a cd that will boot to the Norton Ghost DOS utility (copy disk to disk/partition, image integrity check etc...) exactly the same thing the bootable floppy disk does, which you can create in Norton Ghost. Ghost doesnt give the option to make a bootable cd (Ver.2003 doesn't anyway).
I'm not exactly sure how to do it, but i know it is possible. Someone told me to make a bootable floppy, then use nero to make a bootable cd using the files from the floppy. Is this the best way?Is there a way to put the necessary files together then just burn them to cd?
Just to make sure, this query is not about making images, or cd images that boot, simply just load the dos utility.
If someone knows how to do this, could they please simply list the steps of how to do this as I have been reading stuff all over the net about how to do this and I am getting slightly frustrated and fed up.
Any help will be much appreciated!
You should be able to just burn the boot floppy to a cd then set up the bios to boot from the cd.
Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

Hi per,
Verizon hasn't shut me down yet so I'm still here :-)
Instead of bootable CD, you could use external HD and boot from a Norton-created floppy bootdisk that boots to the external HD. The only drawback is that your BIOS has to support external HD.

I've just finished creating a bootable DVD that restores my Ghost image. You need to create a boot floppy with the following files:
...................................................................................................................
mscdex.exe
COMMAND.COM
MODE.COM
AUTOEXEC.BAT
CONFIG.SYS
IO.SYS
VIDE-CDD.SYS (or another CD-rom driver)...................................................................................................................
Your Autexec.bat file should look like this:
...................................................................................................................@echo off
SET TZ=GHO+08:00
MSCDEX /D:MSCD001 /L:X
PATH=a:\;a:\dos;x:\ghost
echo Loading Ghost........
X:
ghost.exe -clone,mode=restore,src=X:\myimage.gho,dst=1:1 -fx -sure...................................................................................................................
Your Config.sys file should look like this:
...................................................................................................................
DEVICE=VIDE-CDD.SYS /D:MSCD001
...................................................................................................................
Once you have created the floppy, it can be used as the image file in Nero. Add your ghost image(s) and ghost.exe to the CD/DVD and burn.
Notes: The drive used to run the CD/DVD must be the first Atapi device on your machine. The -sure switch in the Autoexec.bat file will automate the process without user intervention. If you prefer to be able to give the final confirmation, omit the -sure switch.
That's about all there is to it. As I said, I used this method to create a bootable DVD, but it should work with a CD also. The only problem you might have is that you might have to span your Ghost image over more than one CD. If that's the case, you may need to use a method that creates a ramdrive.

You have to tell Nero that you are making a bootable CD or DVD. I haven't used Nero - look for a checkbox or a menu item. When you burn the disc, the program will prompt you for the boot floppy.

Hi Sci-guy, good to see you back - I guess you're so busy with the Kangaroos :-)
Re: CD Spanning. Does Ghost span to a set of DVD? I haven't yet tried it.

I haven't tried it either, but the manual says it does.
Hi XpUser,
It does. I used Ghost 2003 and three DVD-RW discs.
Works fine.

SCI-FI:
Your VIDE-CDD.sys file. was that specific to your DVD Drive? The problem I had before was that my TDK DVD Drive would be loaded as a CD and I couldn't read the DVD contents.
Thought it was because of the MSCDEX file, but now am guessing I am wrong.
I guess what I am asking is: Do I need to find the specific .sys file for my TDK DVD Burner OR is there a Generic one that runs them all (like the CD driver on Win98 Boot... Oakcd..something.
