Hello all,
I need to update my bios, main problem is that I can't update my video card because my bios isn't updated to handle it (so says the manufactuer of my vid card). If i update my video card i don't have any video playback, and every 3d application has anomalies all over them that eventually lead to a crash. I also was told to update my motherboard drivers, which is another problem too.

Before i go further, I'll tell you my system..

AMD XP 3000+ Barton Core
768 DDR Ram
N2PAP-Lite (Nforce 2, Machspeed is maker)
Chaintech Nvidia Geforce 6600GT
80GB HDD (NTFS)
_no floppy drive_
CD R/RW
DVD Rom
Hercules Fortissimo 2 Sound Card
Linksys Wireless-G Router
400W Powersupply

ok...
so, I need to create a boot disk so I can update my bios. I don't have a floppy drive, and I don't get paid til friday and I need a fix today or tomorrow. I've followed Nero's horrible help guide about making a bootable floppy, but they need a bootable image, i have no idea where to get one and i've searched forever for one. A lot of these tutorials on making a bootable cd's all assume that you have a floppy drive, which is a reasonable assumption, unfortunetely i decided to give mine away a long time ago.

If i can get a bootable cd, just to get me to a dos prompt so i can get into my hard drive, or even activate the files i need to update my bios that is all i need to do so i can fix everything else. I can't update my motherboard drivers either until i get my bios updated.

so, if any of you know how to get a bootable cd working, please let me know. I've tried a lot of methods, even using freeware small floppy disk creators like bfi. I'm not having any success, and i'm running out of cd's so I can't be waisting anymore testing all these tutorials on the net.

please contact me asap if you can with any info you might have, it means a lot to me!
I'll be checking these forums every 5 minutes.

thanks,
Kedhrin

Thanks for an usually good Problem presntation and System Information to get you some help real fast.

If you can hang in there a few more minutes, while I type out a step-by-step guide for you, I hope it could help you to do the troubleshoot. Give me 10 mnts or so for me to create it without typos:-)

If in the mean time someone else comes up with it, your problem will be solved earlier.

I'm dubious of the Video card manufacturer's claim but let's wait for maad to post back with the procedures.

First Download

DiscWizard Starter Edition (DWSE)
.From the site click and bullet (.) Bootable CD ISO image link from the bottom of Left hand column.

Save the file to your Desktop in a newly created Folder named Iso image.

Next click Start >Programs> Nero Ultra Edition or whatever is your Nero Edition> NERO BURNING ROM

In the Nero Burning Rom Window, click Cancel the overlying New Compilation window to get to the New Burning Rom window that lies beneath the New Compilation window.

Next you must click Recorder tool. This may vary with the Nero Version. It can be on the Menubar or on File> Recorder

Click Recorder> Burm Image…

Next younavigate to the Desktop> Iso image> DWSE_EN.ISO>Open

Click Burn to burn the software on to the inserted blank CD-R.

I too am doubtful about the claim that you need a bios upgrade.
I would concentrate on installing the motherboard drivers. That's a much more logical fix for your problem. You certainly do not need a bios upgrade to install the motherboard drivers.

Well, the instructions maad gave me didn't get me to a dos prompt where i could get into my main hard drive. I believe it is because my hard-drive is on cable select, and if i have my hard drive on master it sits there on "detecting ide devices" in POST. It is the only disk drive hooked up to the cable, and is on the primary ide port of the motherboard.

But, i was able to find an old restore disk for a computer i once had that has installs for windows 98.

It got me to a dos prompt, but instead of the hard drive i had to go make another cd with my bios updates on them, go into bios, turn off flash protection, update bios, turn on flash protection.

then i got back into windows, updated nforce drivers, restarted, updated video drivers.

everything works perfect now, i'm on all latest drivers and updates for all of my hardware.

thanks for the help anyways guys :)
