hu guys,

im getting this error message saying :

unmountable_boot_volume
***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x869A4E30, 0xC0000185, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
now im not able to boot either in safe mode or any other mode, i have got two operating systems, one is windows and other as Ubuntu, and none of them running right now.I have got Ubuntu 8.10 (ultimate edition, installed in a folder with around 8GB space allocated).I dont know what this problem is, but pls help me out and i really dont want to lose my data.
solutions i have tried :

1. i ran recovery but it says, u can go further but u will lose data files, so i stopped it.

2. I also tried and booted my system using windows XP bootable CD, but no help as it did not even detected it i guess..or in short it did nothing.
