Apparently F11 opens the recovery procedure.

Possibly your cmos battery is low and it's defaulting to recovery. You mighty want to go ahead and replace it.

Here's some info about disabling the F11 prompt. I'm not sure it'll work in your case since yours is opening recovery instead of just showing the F11 prompt but you can take a look:

But replace or at least check the cmos battery voltage first.

It is showing the F11 prompt, however it does it on its own, I don't touch it and it goes to the default windows to select. so i use the win xp pro only portion as the mediacenter is screwed up also, The media center gives me a strong name validation error. ehshell.exe don't work!! i am at a loss.
win media center is also missing the c:\windowsroot\sustem 32 hall.dll
thanks for your help

If xp isn't booting properly due to the error messages after you exit the recovery screen then it's probably booting to recovery because of those messages. That is, it's assuming the fix is to do a recovery.

Can you use the F8 menu to boot to any of the safe mode options? If so you may be able to do a system recovery from within windows and not a complete recovery/reset.
