My Tosh Satellite Centrino M30 laptop is not working after I updated it with the MS security updates, it doesn't boot up XP and gives the following error:
The laptop makes a clicking sound and gives me the message.
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Operating system not found.I changed the boot order from the BIOS to: CDROM. And choose exit and save changes. Inserted my Toshiba version of recovery windows XP which allows me the option of
"1. Recovery entire Hard disk" or " 2. Expert Recovery mode" or also "Exit" I chose "1. Recovery entire Hard disk" as I'm no expert (as you can tell!)I then get a load of diagnostic checks run by the laptop and it then finally shows on screen : X:\\ no fixed disk
I've been told that the X:\ may be the Cd-ROM drive...
I ideally want to repair and keep the stuff I have on my HD drive. I'm pretty sure the XP boots from my C: HD drive.
Your help is much appreciated!

Some weeks back, MS warned that a recent "Security Update" could lock users out of their systems.
If for example you have tightened up on the level of security through the already various settings available, MS advised users NOT to use the update patch.
I'm not suggesting that is your problem, on the other hand it is worth thinking about if you have made changes to the security settings.
Lessons learnt the hard way are not easily forgotten.

Hey I am having the same problem... were you able to resolve this? Please email me at bearing66@yahoo.com if you were able to...
Thanks!
Mike
