Boot sequence and what are they?
I have a Dell Dimnsion 4100. I have a floppy, DVD, CD-RW.
After installing XP my CDROM does not "auto start". Does that have anything to do with the BIOS boot order and can you tell me what the following abreviations are?
ARMD-FDD
ARMD-HDD
IDE-HDD
ATAPI-CDROM (got this one)Thanks

ARMD stands for ATAPI removable media device. ARMD-HDD usually refers to Zip drive while ARMD-FDD usually refer to LS-120 drive.
The above was taken off of this page
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/faq/?method=detail&faq_id=18The IDE-HDD is your harddrive.
Next time please try posting in the proper forum, this belonged under General hardware.

ARMD stands for ATAPI removable media device
ARMD FDD (floppy disk drive) usually stands for an LS 120 drive.IDE HDD is your probably your primary hard drive. There are 2 IDE channels(Integrated Drive Electronics) and you can have a master and slave drive on each.
ARMD HDD is usually a zip drive or other removable media storage.
Your boot order should not effect autorun. Autorun is in the drive properties in device manager.
Your floppy should not be the first boot device for windows xp (unless you made the 6-floppy startup disk set) - the XP cd is bootable.
The boot order should be cd then ide 1 then floppy or whatever. This will speed up your system start.

And yes, half this question was general hardware, the other half was about enabling auto run in windowsxp device manager.

Windows feature "autoplay".
Sorry for the mis-post.
I think I have to re-install my drivers for DVD and CD-ROM. What do you think?

go to "my computer", right-click your cdrom icon, and select "properties". Then click on the "autoplay" tab.
For my computer, the boot sequence is hard drive->floppy->cdrom. If I want to change the boot sequence to boot from floppy or cdrom, i don't need to go into bios...I just hit F8 during POST, and a menu pops up and asks me where I want to boot from. Boot sequence is only important when your boot device (ie: hard drive) fails, and you need to resort to something else. Besides, I like leaving cd's in my drives, so I wouldn't want the computer to try and boot off of the game cd's :P

My mistake, not yours. Sorry about that Wolfe.
What happens when you insert a cd? Did you upgrade from an earlier version of Windows?
