Okay, so being an idiot, I got a very minor virus/worm, whatever, yesterday, and it did some funny things to my computer, so my initial reaction was to do a system restore using the restore point, and then after that, my computer will not boot into windows. Instead it gets up to and past the winxp splash screen, and then just sits there blank. I can go into safe mode and do many things like make this post, but I really need to get back to normal mode. Now, I've tried manually restoring the registry by taking the backup files from C:\system volume information, changing their names, and copying them to C:\windows\system32\config but that didnt help at all. I'm thinking about taking out the big guns with fixmbr or fixboot but I've experienced this completly destroying partition tables making all data inaccesable before. If anyone has any ideas as to what to do next, I'm all ears.

Check the Startup Tab in the MSCONFIG window.Type MSCONFIG in the RUN slot.

Everything should be listed only once. Uncheck everything else.

Hmm, unfortunetly that didnt seem to help; I have everything disabled. I did happen to notice that many of the programs I beleive to be associated with my virus were starting up again, although it may just be from when I restored the registry. Has anyone seen anything suspicous about nwiz, ico.exe, nvclp, or atiptaxx ?

To anyone that is reading this: I figured out what the problem was. There was some sort of issue with my video card driver. It had been corrupted or was conflicting or something, but when I removed the card from device manager, the machine started up fine, and then I just reinstlled the card on detection and everything is 100% now. What a relief!
