boot lock-up

After installing, (xp compatable), visioneer 9020 usb scanner, pc locks up on boot at "checking NVRam". unplug either usb or power cable and reboot, all o.k. reconnect cable and p.c recognizes scanner and everthing works good. Visioneer website not much help. Using paperport program and MSI mobo 845GMAX with 6-usb2 ports. Have tried deleting and re-installing twice, same problem. Any ideas?

Go to your computer manufacturer's website (or motherboard manufacturer's) and find out how to wipe out your NVRAM. Might also look for a BIOS update while you're there....
