HEY,
I'm currently using Windows XP Prof, and Windows 98. I had windows 98 as default, but I wanted it to be Windows XP Prof. The thing is that after several tries, nothing seemed to fix it. My last attempt caused my two OS unbootable. So now I cannot use any OS. How can I fix this??...through DOS?...what do I have to write in order to make my computer work..I'm desperate!!...Any help would be very appreciated

well u need to reinstall the both the OS,or try to edit the boot.ini file,or even u can copy a boot.ini file from another PC modify according to ur one past it usin does it might work OR VERY SORRY FORMAT AND INSTALL THE OS......

Unless (during your earlier efforts) you managed to delete XP and or '98 boot/start-up files from c: route..., there "should" be little or no need to re-install everything. Initially run XP setup (CD boot or the 6 floppies + CD) and opt for repair (fixboot/fixmbr) options.
Post back with how you get on regardless?

Boot to the XP cd and go to the recovery console. Type
bootcfg /rebuild
This will rebuild the boot.ini and give you the choice of adding operating systems to it.
Assuming that is what you screwed up.
If you do get it working again the way to change the default operating system to boot is control panel> system > advanced > system and recovery > settings > drop down menu at top.
If that doesn't work, there's
1. fixboot
2. fixmbr
but don't try those until you try bootcfg /rebuild first. Then try 1 first and see if it works before you try 2.
