If you can't use the F8 key method follow the instructions for Windows XP under:
"To use the System Configuration Utility method" at the link below.

It might be that you aren't hitting it at the right time. Try Continually taping it during the boot. You can also try holding down the ctrl key, that sometimes works.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

You can also but Safe Mode on Your Boot Menu, here's how>>>> THE LINE HERE IS WHAT I ADDED AND IS THE LAST LINE IN THE BOOT.INI (CHANGED IT IN NOTEPAD) ANY PROBLEMS JUST DELETE THIS WHOLE LINE HERE>>> multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Safe Mode" /fastdetect/safeboot:minimal /sos /bootlog <<< Just press winkey+pausebreak key then click on Advanced, then go down to startup and recovery Settings, then click on EDIT, then you will see boot.ini come up in Notepad and thats where i entered the last line to put Safe Mode in the boot menu!

After doing this, right-click on My Computer, and
choose Properties. On
the Advanced tab, click the Settings button,
which brings up the Startup
and Recovery window.

Now place a check mark in the option, Time to
display list of Operating
System. Click on Apply and then on OK.

The list of options should now be displayed at
startup.

LeBabouin, Here's a link to a small Free program "BootSafe" that makes it easy to get into SAFE mode.
