I'm going crazy! Ok so I want to format my C: drive because im selling my laptop. I'm running windows XP Home, so i cant boot in DOS. I dont have a floppy drive, but i have a CD-Rom drive & USB ports. I know how to change the source from which the system boots from (F12, i believe) but i cant find a program to boot in DOS, or how to do really anything. Any help would be very very much appreciated.

formatting the disk will render your laptop useless, unless you re-install the operating system (or restore to factory default, using the dell system restore CD)

btw you can set the apropriate boot order in your bios (Dell PC usually respond to F2)

if you really want to WIPE the hard disc, then download Killdisk

http://download2.lsoft.net/boot-cd-...

unzip the file, and burn the ISO image onto a blank CD-R (i.e. Nero Burning ROM, from the 'recorder' menu chose 'burn image')

then boot from this CDROM, at the dos prompt type KILLDISK.exe and press <ENTER>, then follow the onscreen instructions.

again, this will render the laptop useless and dell system restore will most certainly NOT work any longer. you need a xp installation CD in order to install the operating system.

ok, i don't know WHAT you're downloading ... LOL

however, i uploaded it for you to rapidshare.
use this link, scroll down and click 'free', the wait for counter to finish and enter the appropriate code.

http://rapidshare.com/files/1609044...

unzip, start nero, from the 'recorder' menu choose 'burn image', navigate to the unzipped iso image and burn it onto disk.

what do you have? i renamed the file before uploading to rapidshare.com into BOOTCDISO.ZIP (removing the two '-' from the original file name) this archive contains the following 2 files:

BOOT-DSK.ISO (5.963.776 bytes)
!ReadMe.txt (4.896 bytes)

the ONLY file that is of any concern to us would be:

BOOT-DSK.ISO (5.963.776 bytes)

extract this file to your desktop, the start nero (close the wizard), in the menu bar click on 'recorder' and chose 'burn image'. find the file in question on your desktop and burn it onto disk.

The thing IS you might already HAVE what you need, sitting in your abode. What do you have for Winhozed or even Linux installation CD's? Do you have a Whinhoed98SE OEM cd? an Whenhozed 2000 CD? A (cough gargle) XP cd? anything?
