Specs: Windows XP
I recently recoverd a laptop that was given to me and forgot that i needed to have the CD.

It now says that "ntldr is compressed press ctrl+alt+del to restart and continues in a loop.

I know that I need to put in the CD but what can I do if I do not have one.

I have another computer running windows XP ... can I use this in any way ... for EG take a file of it and reboot? etc

any help appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by I recently recoverd a laptop If the recovery operation corrupted the OS the following will not work.

Try this - no guarantees. On your working pc download "Boot CD - Windows XP emergency boot CD (XP Sp2 Pro & XP Sp2 Home) 158k (11-Mar-2007)" from http://www.answersthatwork.com/ unzip and burn the Iso file to cd. Boot from the burned cd in your laptop ensuring that in bios the first boot device is the optical drive.

If the system boots to Windows XP open Cmd.exe and enter "attrib -c ntldr" (without the "" ""), remove the boot cd and reboot.

what if the computer has no cd drive to burn a cd ?

I did a system recovery to try and fix some problems with it and chose the second option with no formatting but need the cd to boot it back!!

@squidrive what if the computer has no cd drive to burn a cd ?

Then that's another reason my suggested workaround will not be successful.
