Boot disks do not work

I'm a little confused... I downloaded and setup the 6 disk set of boot disks from the MS site. But when I go to boot with them I get a "boot disk i/o error" message.
Also, when I use my Win98 boot disk with CD Rom Drive support, the computer boots OK to the A prompt. But I cannot run setup from my Win XP Pro CD. It says it is a DOS program and cannot run from DOS.
I do not need to reinstall Win XP at this time but wanted to get setup and be ready just in case. What am I doing wrong? (By the way I tried setting up to boot from my Win XP CD but cannot get it to work either even with the BIOS settings changed to boot from CD.)
Can anyone give me tips on how to reinstall Win XP from DOS if I ever need to?? Thanks.

With the 98 bootdisk you need to go into the \i386 folder and type "winnt" (without the quotes) to begin the install process. There is no 'setup.exe' in NT, 2000, or XP...they all use the winnt.exe for DOS based installs (or the winnt32.exe if you're starting the install from within the GUI)
