I'm wondering if anyone can help me out, I am continually getting a message @ boot up saying "Boot device not detected." I hooked up my other hard drive and booted from that, all the files are still there and it's still reading the correct size of the partition & space used.

I tried using system restore hoping it would fix the boot up log, with no luck.

More than likely it's something to do with your BIOS settings, check your BIOS and make sure the correct hard drive is set as 1st boot device.

Try FIXBOOT from the recovery console.

no boot device detected is a bios message and XP recovery can't fix this since XP comes after the bios.

Make sure your drive is configured as master and the other ide device is set to slave not cable select.

Download the drives utilities [manufacturers web site] and test the drive

I'm assuming this drive has a previous XP installation on it. Did you install anything on your computer that caused this to start happening? It could be that the boot.ini became corrupted.

Also, what sabertooth meant was to boot from XP CD and go into repair console and type that in - that would fix the corrupted boot.ini

I also suggest getting hard drive testing utilities from your HDD manufacturer, because they can diagnose lots of problems.

Hi All.
I had a similar problem with my Maxtor 60GB HDD and my Asus board w/ AMI BIOS.
The BIOS is upto date and it detect the HDD w/ the correctly parameters.
But, when I install XP for the first time w/ Clean install. It gave out that Non-system disk or disk error messgae. This happened after XP setup copied all the files and reboot for the first time.
Now, I got around this problem with a Maxtor utility. called MaxBlast if i remember correctly.
So, ups1127, this may not be your prob. but have you tried something to that effect?

/best of luck

Thank you for the replies; however, if windows will not load correctly, how is it a problem with the bios for the hard drive?
