Try a different Ethernet cable or perhaps a different port on your router if you have one. Also does this happen to other computer.

How many "other" connections?
Do you have a router?
Are you doing a mix of wired and wireless?
Post the results of an ipconfig /all when the wired computer can't get on the internet.

Sounds like the PC is turning off your network device "to save power"

Go into Device Manager and uncheck the box that says "allow the computer to power off this device....."
