This is from previous post:
"My wife works at a doctor's office and there is a pc that runs XP on it. When looking at the desktop or other features the screen is clear and everything looks fine. When she opens a certain software it is blurry like out of focus. Is this something in the software or is it something that can be fixed by monitor or elseswhere within the pc?Bryan
As for the blury image when opening certainl software it is unlikely to be the monitor at fault. Is you wife using a TFT Digital Display? If so that may be the problem. Digital displays work diferently than CRT monitors. They have a native resolution, usually 1024 x 768. The softwaer may be forcing an 800 x 600 resolution. If digital monitors are run at relolutions other than their native ones, it can produce a degraded image. Refresh flicker doesn't apply on digital monitors. They normally have a refresh rate as low a 60 Hz."Thanks for the reply. Couple of questions.
1. How can she tell if she is using a TFT Digital Display or a CRT?
2. If she is using a TFT Digital Display or a CRT what can she do to correct the blurry view.
Thanks alot in advanced.

http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/87961.htmlI hope that Stuart, who gave you this lead, doesn't mind me adding my thoughts(based on his ideas btw)...
Hi Bryan,CRT monitors are the traditional 'big boxes'. Nowadays, flat-panel displays like TFT & LCD monitors are also available. I don't know which one your wife has, but if it's a flat monitor, then Stuart appears to be on the trail of your problem:
If the flat monitor doesn't like high refresh rates, then it is quite possible that you're wife is having trouble with an application that's trying to force a high refresh rate(maybe an older application?).
If this is the case, I would suggest running the ProblemApplication with 'other OS-compatibility' set. I'll explain.RightClick the icon of your ProbApplication,
select 'properties', select 'compatibility',
and then check-mark 'run this program...' and select an OS(OperatingSystem). Try any and check whether that solves it. Also, under that, try a check-mark on the stuff under 'display settings' (Run in 256 / Run in 640x480 / Disable Visual themes ) Try them, see what you get, maybe one will do the trick. If only certain applications show this behaviour, then those are responsible - most likely.Just a quick check, though - it's not interference from another monitor or some hardware that's used in conjunction with the ProbApplication, could it?
Hope Stuart nailed it and I'm sure he'll join me in

I just had another thought...
Does the ProbApp open a window with lots of white in it - as opposed to the black desktop?
It could be a matter of contrast/brightness-settings on your monitor, graphics card or multiple-display software(check in that order - you may not have the multiple-display software, don't worry about that one).
See the monitor's instruction manual. Those settings could also be software & the one for the graphics card is software:
Thoroughly check everything in the 'display properties'(rightclick the black desktop & select 'properties') for contrast/brightness settings.HappyHolidays to you all!
