Hey all,

I setup a laptop with XP Pro sp2 for my brother, but before sending it to him I wanted to make sure that every single thing worked. I've never worked with Bluetooth (BT) before but experimented with it by attaching my Samsung A-870 phone to the laptop via BT.

It asked me to enter a code that I had to create at the time. (you probably already guessed where this is going here). Well, he got his laptop yesterday and went to pair his phone with it, and I FORGOT THE BLOOMIN' CODE!

so obviously my question is: What the heck to I do to get his BT to work with his devices? Is there a way to reset that code? Crap. I was just wanting to make sure it worked beforehand, and didn't know that is how BT functioned. one code for all devices. crap.

so if anyone can help with how to aleviate his BT connection problem please please please help. I'd really appreciate it, of course, so would he! heh.

I'd also figure that uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for BT from Dell wouldn't work because I am assuming that there is a key in the registry that is set with that code beyond what uninstallers would modify or reset. would you agree with that?

Thanks a million for any leads on this a.s.a.p. :)

Chuck

Hi MTchuck,

Working with bluetooth isn't as hard as first thought.
There isn't "1 code for all". the laptop has noticed a "different" phone trying to connect to his laptop, and is asking for a code.... this code should be "his" choice (99.9% of people choose 0000), the laptop will then supply the code to his phone, and his phone ask for the code he just put in his laptop (ie: 0000). he should then type this code into his phone, and this will establish the connection, and work as he wishes.

The only difference is if he uses a bluetooth keyboard for his laptop, then the code is supplied on the laptop, and requests you type this on the keyboard to confirm connection.
So to sum up, he must give a code of his choice on the laptop, and repeat it when his phone asks for it (I suggest he makes the code short and easy because bluetooth will only wait about 10 seconds before failing to connect.
Hope this helps, unless I missed the plot on what you asked lol.
