I have a dongle plugged in and i can use it no problem to send and recieve data.... but windows always shows it as disconnected. This is stopping me from using an earpiece as it will not connect. any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

are you sure it has been installed properly?
I had a similar problem with a bluetooth dongle and noticed (in device manager) that Windows had recognised it as a "bluetooth radio". This meant I could send/receive data but couldn't access other services and it wouldn't connect in the taskbar. No matter how many times I tried re-installing its software it didn't matter.
What I had to do was go into Device Manager, select it and choose UPGRADE driver. Then select the driver that came with it. Only then would windows set it up properly.

you are right, it sees it as a blutooth radio, but the option to upgrade driver isn't there to select. So i'm a little stuck now lol.
