After having some trouble with AOL, I was doing a system restore. When it rebooted after the restoration I got a blue screen...
"STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080 (0x00000000 0x00000000) The system has been shut down."
I've been searching the internet on my laptop for how to get in to fix my desktop. I've tried F8 to get to last configuration that worked and safe mode. I can't even try to fix it with my reinstallation disc. It's dead! Is there anyone who knows how I can get the disc to work under these circumstances?

Have you tried doing a full system repair? Boot from the XP CD, select the second "R" option (NOT the first screen!), and you should be up and running.

If a system repair fails (which, in most cases it shouldn't), you need to remove your hard drive and put it in another computer. It is best if that computer has Windows 98 or XP (XP for NTFS only), because Windows 98 and above does a better job of reading HD's and configuring them.

On the computer that you're putting the HD in, get a CD-R or CD-RW, zip disk, or any backup utility that the computer permits, and back up all the data on the damaged drive on the backup device.

Once the backup (file transfer) process is complete, put the damaged drive back in the original computer and do a format/clean install, then apply your saved file.

If you don't have any computers you can attach the HD as a secondary HD to, I'd recommend you take your computer to a nearby repair center.

A final note: don't run chkdsk on the damaged installation drive. If you do, you risk losing data, as chkdsk rearranges the contents of the HD when deemed necessary (ex: bad sectors).

This has been long enough. Good luck & tell us how it went!

Cheers!

Thanks for the in-depth explanation, Andy, but I don't think I can do that. 1) I can't Start in safe mode. All I get is a bunch of white writing, then it tries to start and goes back to the blue STOP screen and shuts down. I DO have the disc and wish I could use it. 2)The only other computer I have is this laptop. I'm glad it's working so well! 3)It ran chkdsk on it's own twice already. That gave me false hope that it was fixing itself.
It's got WinXP sp1. 356 ram. Dell Dimension 2350.
I think I'll have to wait for my expert repairman to get back from vacation...unless you have anymore ideas?

So, you don't have the XP Repair CD?
