Have Win XP Home. On plugging in a USB VideoBlaster WebCam the system immediately reboots and a blue screen tells me I had an error STOP: 0x0000007E. I can't find any reference in the MS Knowldege Base or anywhere else to that error code. Anybody know what the error code or what could be causing my problem with the WebCam?
Is there not a list of all STOP error codes somewhere?
I have a "MiniDump" corresponding to the error but it's not a readable file. Is there a program that interprets this file?
I tried plugging in a USB mouse. Now the machine won't boot in normal mode. It hangs at a blank screen *after* displaying the first Windows logo screen. Does boot in safe mode. Whats up with that!
Not much a confidence booster for me on Win XP...
Thanks in advance for any help...

Have you checked to see if the USB is listed in your hardware, and that it is operating correctly. Is it a USB PCI Card? If it is, try removing it and reinstalling it if it is not listed in the hardware. How many different components are you trying to use at the same time on your USB Ports? It could be a power supply problem, and you might need to get a USB Hub that has its own power supply.

USB is built-in on m/b (Gigabyte BX2000). I had no other USB devices. USB is listed in the device list and apparently working normally. I tried removing it and it got re-installed but that didnt fix my problem.
Right now my big problem is that after trying to plug in a Microsoft USB mouse, XP will not boot at all in normal mode. I cant find any way out of this and may have to re-install XP. Ugh.

There is an adapter for your USB Mouse. It allows an USB Mouse to be conected into the original mouse plug. Do you have an old mouse around to see if it will work? My adapter cost around $6 when I switched to an optical USB Mouse.

Here's the link to the Hardware Compatibility Page. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog/wcbody.asp?subid=22&catid=dac80a81-e858-4564-8205-6c687d6ab3f0&ps=1&po=0&pi=1
There are 2 Creative Video Blaster web cams listed as being "compatible with" XP. This usually means that you must download special drivers from their webpage for xp. Have you tried that?

The Cam in the VideoBlaster package is the Creative Webcam 3 (CT6840). It is listed in the Windows XP compatability page. The cam works in another machine I have which is Win2000.
I'm fairly certain that problem has been the presence of drivers for another, non-USB, webcam, an Omnivision, which is no longer being used.
My problem with the mouse is not the mouse itself. I have the adapter and it works in the PS/2 port. My problem is that after trying it in the USB port, just to see if another USB device besides the cam would work, my system no longer boots in normal mode, only safe mode. Don't know if this is because of the mouse or the webcam or something else.
I'm going to restate my questions in a fresher post so if you're interested look up in the lists for posts on 2002/04/12.
Thanks to all who responded.
