OS: WinXP
CPU/Ram: Intel
Comment:

Removed some unused software and now system boots then goes to a blue screen which says:
"Unmountable-Boot-Volume". I repartitioned, reloaded XP, tried booting from disk (works o.k.), tried repairing, safe mode, reverting to earlier version, all that stuff.

Time for a new hard drive?

I have nothing to contribute, other than to point out that the subject of your post would make an awesome song title.

Yeah!

And, believe it or not, one day "Unmountable Boot Volume" will be the name of a movie.

I guarantee it.

Probably a chick flick with James Garner sitting on a swing on the front porch sipping brandy.

Already I'm crying because it's so sad.

But seriously, Booger...

It's good policy to keep a spare hard drive laying around, even though the replacement might not be essential at this time.

Try killdisk:

...and then reinstall the OS before you conclude that the hard drive can't be resurrected.
