System: AsusTUSL2C, PIII 1G, NVidia TNT2M64, Sound BlasterLive value, DLink 530TX+, 512MB RAM, DVDrom, CDRW Yamaha, WinXPpro

problem:
After few hours comp. is off [like overnight] afterturn it on, it's showing blue screen with error Bad System Config Info 0x0000074 and other errors. After reboot [sometimes few times] system is starting, showing option to go to safe mode - I choose start normally and everything is working fine all day 'till next morning.
Sometimes it is black screen with message that system file is corrupted - after reboot - blue screen, reboot again - it's fine till the next morning.
On previous WInXP installation I had error C00000018.

Tryed to change motherboard 3 times - same thing. Replaced power supply, memory, Reinstalled XP 2x - same thing.
The latest drivers are installed - no luck.
Is it video card?...
Any ideas?
thx - vector

I have similar problem. It does not occur
every time. Once in a while (around once
a week) that the computer will boot to
the XP banner and then crashed with blank
screen.

I wonder if you could try to set up the
BIOS to perform extensive RAM test instead
of Quick test and see

I thought most of Award BIOS has this
option. I believe your mother board
is using Award BIOS.

What is your power supply rating ?
Have you tried to remove one device
at a time to only leave just HD and
video card ?

I removed everything except HD and video card, it was hanging on black XP loading screen. I had to reinstall video driver.

Then I changed video card for ATI Radeon 7500. So far didn't crush! I will test it and post results here within next 3-4 days. It looks like Nvidia was causing the problem.

I found this possible solution for the problem, but is in spanish. This said that is possible a problem with the ACPI and during the instalation you dont need to install the ACPI (HALL.DLL) for to solve the problem

When you install the XP: Insert CD and then install, at the first screen push F7 (when you read push F6) and choose "standard PC"

This steps will install the XP without ACPI

OK bye

Re: No 12
Here is all story and details on my Nvidia:
Card:
Nvidia TNT2 M64, 32MB, 4X AGP

My first nvidia card [the same model] was exchanged few days after system was build.

Problems were on original XP drivers on startup [bad system config info , error 0x00000074...]
Then I installed the newest Nvidia driver v. 23.11 from Nvidia web page, still the same problems. Then I installed Nvidia older driver but with WHQL [Windows certified driver], v.21.83 and still the problem existed. Once I've tryed to remove all devices and leave only HD and Nvidia card - system locked up on black WinXP startup page. I had to reinstall oryginal XP video driver in safe mode. Then I decided to change video card for a card, with Windows XP logo [in my case I choossed ATI RADEON 7500, for now] Since then NO PROBLEMS so far [this is second day and didn't have a single problem - hope it will last this way...]

I've had problems with Win 2000 on this machine few months ago [with this nvidia video card installed, of course] - system was restarting randomly without any reason - then I installed Win XP Pro [and startup problem raised - blue screen, missing properties on display, "old" looking taskbar with gray START button - not green]

By the way, latley I asked my friends and 3 of them had this nvidia card, and all of them had problems on Win ME, 98SE and XP Home. After they changed the card problems stopped.

Looks like this card is not so good. From now on I would buy only hardware with Windows Logo on it [and good brand], not only "compatible" mark. [you can check it out on MS site]. It is worth it. From now on - if I have a problem I would change the hardware for the one with the LOGO of the operating system I will use.

If you have more questions - let me know here - I will try to answer.

I am using NVIDIA and running 21.83
NVIDA with WHQL. Normally, the problem
does not occur every time of booting up.
Around once a week the system boots
pass the WinXP banner but crashes before
going to the loggin screen. The screen
goes blank. Can't easily isolate the
problem since it occurs infrequently.

Any way, I am glad you found the
problem and thank you for the info.

It is over 2 weeks from the time I installed ATI Radeon 7500 with their newest drivers.

System is stable as a rock, didn't have a single problem within those 2 weeks.

I tryed to install another new nvidia vcard and guess what - BLUE SCREEN.
So I will stay with ATI - it works!!!
