Pretty sure that means they're compressed, but I'm not sure.

Isn't that an oxymoron.

In XP, compressed files are in normally blue, and encrypted files green. Though compression tends to diminish the quality of media files like mp3's and others, windows file compression format does not alter the quality of the mp3's so that's good.

If you have the room to spare on you harddrive, you can disable compression altogether from the registry by simply deleting HKEY_ LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Explorer\VolumeCaches\Compress Old Files.
