Hi,
I'm hoping that somebody nice here can help me.
I'm running a laptop with MS XP (service pack 2 I think) and today, when I went to switch it on, I was presented with two user accounts instead of my usual one.
The new one is ASP.NET Machine account (I've found out what this is and it's a mystery to me why it's appeared now). Trouble is...my laptop doesn't have a password set but both of the accounts want a password from me. When I try to log in on my normal user account without entering a password I get the message 'the local policy of this machine does not permeit you to logon interactively'
All the advice I've found online so far is only good for once I'm past the blue screen.
Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance.
Chelle

Can you access the PC using Administartor account and Password?
Or is this PC one with no Admin Password also?

You need to update the.NET Framework and it needs to be updated to Service Pack 1. This will fix your problem with logging in...

No I can't and yes it is, which I realise, now, is very silly.

How can I do that if I can't get past the blue screen?

luckychelle,
If you have an Administrator account and you know the exact password and is typing it in lower cases without ANY ERRORS, I am totally baffled why you cannot get access to your installed Desktop.
If the above situation is what is going on, you may try repair using the WinXP CD and rebooting the PC and initially IGNORING the Repair option in the first screen and just clicking on Installing Windows XP Option instead and later the OS disc will discover the existence of a Windows Install on a partition and offer Repair option. At this time Accept the Repair Option and follow onscreen prompts.
I'm uncertain if this will remedy your situation but is worth a try as the other option is Reformat and Reinstall and consequent loss of personal data and the need to look for device drivers XP CD does not have.
Whatever the outcome, please post back so all can learn from this unique situation.

No, I just can't get past the password screen. I had no password settings at all.
*sigh* I was hoping it wouldn't come to it but I tried the repair option and there was no change in the problem. I've done a complete reinstall now (I've got all my drivers and a reasonably recent back-up of all my files.) and it seems to have worked.
The ASP.Net account still exists, but it doesn't appear on the log-in screen anymore. I've set passwords now, so hopefully it won't be the end of the world if it happens again.
Thanks for your help.

Thank you for posting back. I was afraid you
might have to Reformat & Reinstall and had
less hope of Repair succeeding.
