Blank screen on boot

Acer 3000

Specs: Windows XP, AMD Sempron 2 GHz
My laptop will not boot up. When it press the power button, the power button lights up but the screen remains black. When I put my Heiren's Boot CD in, and try to boot up I can hear it reading from the CD but the screen still remains black. I have tried to hook up a separate monitor ad the monitor still remains black.

I have removed the battery but still nothing....

Could someone give me some advice? Thanks!

If you have access to a regular LCD or CRT monitor, plug it into your laptop. If you can see your bootup on the external monitor this tells you your video card on the laptop is fine and either the laptops monitor itself, or it's backlight circuit, is toast.

I can't think of the name of that backlight circuit offhand for the life of me, but if you're lucky, that will be whats wrong.

In any case, to diagnose beyond that point it will have to be taken in to a professional.

Thank you guys for your help.....

I forgot to tell you this started with this error Disk Read Error Occurred. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart. I got that message 3 times. I have also tried to hook up an external monitor but still nothing....... I thought it was my hard drive but it won't even boot up with a boot disk.......

Take the hard drive out and see if you can boot into BIOS.

The Disk Read error may have indicated a hard drive failure or it may have been a ram problem. These type of problems can take a bit of trial & error to resolve
