Blank desktop shown after login

when i log in, it displays a blank desktop (with wallpaper),but explorer is not running. I tried to run it using task manager, but it does not run as a new task. any one can help me with this ? thanks

Usually Windows is initializing network systems right before the EXPLORER loads. So if it hangs only showing your wallpaper then I would put money on your network. Can you boot into safe mode? If so (make a note of current settings) remove your network protocols. You could even go so far as to disable your network card in device manager. Then try loading windows. Betting it will load just fine and if so we can address the problem as being network specific.
