I can't get any program that burns CD-R's to reconize blank CD's. No problem with
RW's just CD-R's. When I put a blank CD-R
in I get no medium inserted. I have Nero
5.5.7.2. I have tried windows media player and musicmatch same thing happens they just
say no cd inserted. I had a similar problem in 98. And had to uninstall any packet writing software. Correct me if I am wrong
but doesn't XP have packet writing build in.
How would I turn this off. Any ideas?

Go to winexplorer, right click on your burner drive ?: and there is some setings in the properties. I don't thing this is your problem coz I using Nero, the XP writing is enable and no problems at all. Could be the burner himself????

One way to find out if still works is install the burner in someone computer and burn CD. Wont take long but you'll be 100% shure it works.

Also try different brand of CD-R.The composition of the materials differ from brand to brand.

Do you get the no cd message when you actually try to do the burn process? I get that message if I put a blank cd in before I am ready to record, but when I start the actual burn there is no problem.

Check your CD drive manufacturer's site for possible firmware update. XP has a known problem detecting blank CD in the Plextor drive. See http://www.plextor.com/english/support/downloads/firm_1210.html

First thanks for all the help.
I tried it in a friends computer that is dual boot with XP/98 and it worked fine in both. Tried a different brand of CD-R's and
my burner couldn't find those either.
I waited untill my burner prompted me for a CD-R then put it in and closed the drive.
That didn't work either. But here is the
strange part after I put the CD-R in I ejected it then slammed it shut and my burner detected it and the burn proccess started got to 3% and said medium not present.
My burner is a creative RW8438E no firmware
update for it. And I am using Nero 5.5.
