Won’t boot up. Screen black, says: “Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system 32\hal.dll. Please install a copy of above file. “ Any Ideas?

Also to say, you should get more RAM. XP uses all of, at least, 128MB to run properly, and works better. Then you need more than that for running other programs. Try 256 or 512 more.

s--- my bad, just saw xp disregard the before post, put in your xp cd and use the recovery console to replace the file...the odd thing about it is the fact that my xp machine does not have the file of hal.dll
