hi,
A friends computer got a corrupted hard drive so i fixed that, then started windows up and they tried to log on but there passwords had been corrupted so they could not log on so i tried to reset them but for some reason the reset programs would not work. So i started the repair process on the xp cd so i could gain access to command prompt after pressing SHIFT + F10 then control userpasswords2 during the installing windows part
The problem is i started the repair and the copying files went through fine then it checked the sysem config, the was fine then it restarted and it came up with a black screen and a cursor. So i restarted it a couple of times it didn't change, then i tried repairing it and that copied the files but wouldn't pass the system config. I tried last know config.
At the moment i am installing another cop of windows along side the first.
How can i fix the other install?

You are installing a second instance of XP on the same partition?

IMO that is not a solution. Get hold of an external drive or something. It sounds like the WP install is cobbled up and should be re-installed. If you have a burner in this computer you can download Knoppix and use it to burn the files you need to recover to CDR or DVDR. Knoppix is a live version of Linux and installs to and runs from one CDR. Knoppix can usually utilize all the hardware in the computer. Knoppix is a 700MB download. Google for it.
