Black screen. Laptop will not boot.

Specs: Windows Vista
If I try to boot my laptop via the Hard Drive I get the following black screen:

I'm stuck. I have no ideas. I'd throw the thing in the garbage if it didn't contain picture files that I want.

Is it possible for you to unscrew the hdd cap on the laptop and remove the laptop's hdd then plug it into a regular computer that still works and backup your photos this way?
