Hi.

My computer freezes into a black screen or empty screen, whatever you may call it, it happens after the Windows XP logo with the loading bar below it, and before the log on screen which of course i havent been able to get to. It just stays black, in safe mode it just starts loading all these things like drivers like a list of things and then stops and freezes like that, and last known configuration doesnt work either, and it doesnt respond to anything i do with the keyboard.
I asked a friend to make some boot disks for me, and he gave me 6 floppy disks, I tried using them and after loading all of them and following the steps, at disk 6 it gives me the options to 1. install XP , 2. go to the recovery console and 3. to exit.. I tried first the recovery console and it just asks me "Which Windows installation would you like to log onto? 1: C:\WINDOWS " .. then i wrote 1 and pressed enter.. and nothing happened, it seem it frozed like that too. I dont have the Windows XP CDROM so i cant install anything... i could try getting one, but still, im at the point that i dont know if getting it would help me, or if there is a way to use these floppies to repair whatever error the computer has.
Thats why I ask if somebody could give me some directions, i would greatly appreciate any help, dont matter if its just a small suggestion, ive had the computer in this state for two weeks with no signs of hope, so any help would be really great.
Thanks much in advance.

Please help, cause im dumb and poor. :p

Just a thought. I wonder if Compaq/HP will sell you a copy of the 'Restore Software' for the machine.

Sorry, I do not check for private messages

HP owns Compaq now.
Why do you think they will not sell you a "Recovery CD" ???

You could go here-
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/
Then click "Software and Driver Downloads",
then enter Product information.
That will lead you to a download or online ordering of CDs.

For Compaq Presario 5320US, I had a Recovery CD, but needed QuickRestore CDs to install on a new HDD. They cost only $11.00 US back then,
before HP bought Compaq.

Compaq Order Center:
1-800-841-2761 or 1-800-952-7689

Those are the numbers that I have prior to
HP buying Compaq.
