i have been getting black login screens recently when i try to login into xp. i was able to fix it by going into safe mode, removing the ati display adapter, and then rebooting. however, not there is no ati display adapter listed when i go to add/remove programs. i tried removing the ati control panel, but that didnt work. i also tried reinstalling the ati drivers, but it said i needed to install a standard vga display first. can i download this somewhere or is it on my computer and just isnt being recognized? thanks for the help.

The ATI driver would be listed in Device Manager under Display Adapters.
Go into safe mode and remove that entry and reboot. Windows will "find" the new hardware and install basic VGA drivers for you. Then download the latest driver for your video card and operating system and install the updated driver.
