Faxing is possible in Win xp pro. without installing any other software. But I don't know about win xp home. If it is also avialable in win xp home I think u don't need to install bitware.
Just go like this to install your win xp in-built fax :
start>> printers and Faxes>> and click the set up faxing in left pane under "Printer tasks' ( u need the xp cd rom in the instaling process) Hope this will solve your problem.
