Hi guys,
Please I have a very serious problem with Bittorent and my Dlink dsl-500t router When I tried to download files from Bittorent or edonkey which I prefer but the main problem that It's very slow about 2K/s although my connection support up to 54K/s
I searched about this problem alot I got up with some conclusions:
1) Problem can be solved if I have a static IP in my PC other than the one the router uses and the Dynamic Ip the Router gives me
2) to make Port forwarding and here is the biggest Program In the Dlink Dsl-500t interface I must make a rule in the port forwarding option, I put The name of the rule: "Bittorrent" and the I chose the protocol "TCP" and the port start: "6881" and the port end: "6999" but the problem is in the port map: I need a value that I don't know and I really don't what the heck is this???
Please Help I'm really tired of this

There should be a section in the help manual for Bittorrent regarding this. Pretty much all file-sharing apps tell you to configure your router to allow incoming connections, which in turn will make the download speeds faster.
I personally don't trust doing this, so I just let it be. It is true that some tweaks here and there will speed things up, but mostly it depends on who you are downloading from, the sources available, and, believe it or not, time of day.
Someone with more experience with BitTorrent will come along and guide you on this one.

We have a D-Link DSL modem router and we use eMule and on ocaission Bittorrent. We were getting slow downloads and low id on emule until we put the downloading computer in the DMZ. This is only recommended if you have a good firewall and anti-virus software!! Putting yourself in the DMZ is like putting the machine outside the router firewall and since then we get a high ID in emule and good speeds from Bitorrent.
Others may have better info on port forwarding if you do not have a secure enough computer to feel like doing this."Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference." Frost

I have used Bit Torrent and Emule extensively, but I do not have a router made by D-Link. My own DSL modem however is a Westell and I can configure it just the same.
Crystal you have done excellent so far and let me say that I am surprised how far you got :-) What you need to know next, is very simple:
You have already forwarded ports 6881-6999 on TCP on the outside (internet-side) of the router, so now you have to configure one last thing, the map port. This is actually the same port as the starting port you already forwarded in your intial rulesetting :-)
In other words, set the final setting of "map port" to 6881 and you will be fine :-)
What this does is, it "forwards" every packet from the internet that is destined for ports 6881 thru 6999 to start travelling to the port 6881 on your computer (which is where they would normally have went if you didn't have the router). You're just establishing a clear path, thats all. Mapping port 6881-6999 on the outside to start accessing port 6881 (and up) on your computer (on the inside) is what you will be doing :-)
