hi all. i've recently get a problem with bittorrent. when i m trying to get some (not illegal) files the download is too slow! i am supposed to get the files fastly since i have an asdl connection but the bitrate is about 1 or 2 k or even 0k.
Another day i got a strange message from bt. it says: "warning from tracker - unable to connect to your data port. this will result in slow downloads. please check your firewall settings" i dont use a real firewall, only xp firewall and i dont even have sp2 installed. i know xp firewall before sp2 is very basic. how can i solve this problem? do i have to turn off the useless xp firewall?

Regarding the slow download ... You can only download as fast as the other party can send it. Dial up users are limited to under 5K.

"Firewall settings" also apply to any router you might have. If you do have a router, you'll have to forward the appropriate range of ports.
But as ham30 said, it also depends on the upload speeds of the other people involved.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

That tracker thing also sounds like the source of your download files is trying to dump a cookie on you and probing your firewall. No way would I recommend agreeing to any request to reduce firewall security settings.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

well i tried to download another file (didnt disable the firewall) and i got another strange message: "Could not load fastresume data: Fastresume data doesn't match actual filesize. Will perform full hash check." i dont know waht that means bu i think i ll just reinstall bt.

Most problems with BitTorrent aren't related to the client, more to the tracker and torrent/file(s) associated with the torrent. A hash check is like an md5 checksum.
