When I start my computer I always get this bios screen showing me what drives are not hooked up. I then get asked to press F1 to continue or F2 to enter the Bios. Is there some way to bypass this screen and boot up windows. Second problem: I also get asked for an administrative password. Since I haven't set one I just hit return. Is there someway to remove this task from my bootup?

Usually you go into the bios and set or select the type(s) of drives you have and save.

Second is you should add in a password. Then setup a limited user account. Always use the limited user account instead of the admin account. To install or do admin tasks you can use "runas".

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Listen to jefro. When your user profile gets trashed you will be able to use the Administrator account to fix things. If you continue to use that account on a daily basis you will eventually have some type of problem and won't be able to fix it.

jefro, I tried what you said with the bios anoyance and it worked. All I had to do was turn off those drives I wasn't using. I still had a fan failure and I replaced that so now I don't get that bios screen. As for the Administrator password, I want this thing to boot up to windows without asking me for a password. I know it's risky but I am willing to chance it. How do I get rid of the window asking me for a password. thanks alot.

If you create the user account you will have the option to not use a password on it. Then you won't see the administrator log in screen anymore.

If you ever need to boot into safe mode or the repair console you will need that administrator password. Hitting enter will not work in those modes. Make an Administrator password and write it down.

Guess I'll add a password. I like hitting the power button and just sitting there until windows loads. I don't really like having to do anything for it to load but I guess you're right, I should have a password for all of the reasons you listed.

Did you even read my last post? You add the password ONCE. Then create a user account and DON'T use a password. You won't need to type a password everytime. Gees.

OtheHill, I'm having trouble with this. I have tried to create another account but was only able to create another Administrative account. When I try to switch to it I get this message: "Client Services for Netware has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching. To restore these features, you must inistall Client Servies for netware". I have no idea what this means?

I've had this old PC for a long time. It's not currently connected to the internet but when I do connect I use a NIC card on a PCI slot. As for this software being legal or not, I'm sure it's not but I do plan to buy a legal copy one of these days. I'm going to build a PC and when I do I'll get a current copy of Vista.
