I have a problem. I have made a bios password. But I want to be prompted for it each time I boot up the computer. I have windows XP running on a Hp pavillion 751n. Anyway I don't know what to do in CMOS setup to get it to prompt for the password. Plus I've got another problem. I don't see anyway of physically locking the CPU case on the pavillion. There is no place to put a lock. Trust me I've got an annoying roomate who likes to screw around with my passwords and stuff; so is there a way that anyone knows of locking the case with some kind of special lock?
Thanks in advance,
Brendan Barrett.

You're only prompted for a BIOS password when you try to enter the BIOS. Sounds like what you're looking for is a power-on password. Poke around in your BIOS to see if you can find a place where you can set one.

In the bios, got to the advanced bios features, scroll down to password check, and set it to - Always.
Now a password prompt will appear everytime every time the cpu is powered on and also to enter the bios. As for locking the case I suggest taking a look at simply.co.uk or dab.com
They sell all kinds of locking solutions. Hope this helps.

There is 2 different bios passwords, one for entering the bios set up and one for booting up the pc. Sounds like you've set up one but not the other.

A bios password is not a reliable security setting since it only take a reset (through the connection of two idents close to the battery, or simply the removal of the battery) to clear the password. You should rather get a lock somewhere, or simply just hide the keyboard.....
