Comment:

I just built a pc based on an ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard with bios revision 1004, Athlon XP 3000+ (333MHZ) CPU, and 512 mb of PC3200 DDR Ram. My cpu External frequency is set at 166 Mhz, my memory frequency is auto detected also at 166mhz. Pc 3200 hundred is capable of running at 400 Mhz..(correct me if I'm wrong here). Would there be any danger in changing the memory frequency to 200 Mhz, or am I limited to the 333Mhz bus of the cpu? Also, does anyone know w the average temperature for this cpu when it is idle? I have the AMD recommended CoolerMaster heatsink and fan, using Antec silver paste, and my cpu is idling right now at 47.1 degrees celsius according to the thermal sensor taped under the cpu, but the bios hardware sensor is showing 42 degrees celsius. Thanks for any suggestions!

In your BIOS, look for the memory settings and change to 200 mhz, multiplier should be 2, giving you an effective 400mhz memory frequency speed. (Your are correct: PC3200 IS IN FACT DDR400)NO YOU ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE PROCESSOR FRONT SIDE BUS....These are different *buses*....

166mhz is correct for your FSB for the CPU, (I am assuming you have a Barton core AMD,right?) and the multiplier for this baby is again 2, yielding a 333mhz fsb.

other than that your comp specs should be fine...temperature depends on the case, cooling solution, and how well mounted the heatsink & fan is ....also air circulation is a factors as well as the actual environmet..are you in an office (AC) or a warehouse? All this plays a role...your temperature is right in the specs for an AMD processor - these monsters are alwasy hotter than Intels...

I suggest you repost this on the CPU/Overclocking forum...you may get the best and probably tested feedback there.
